Brassaï was born September 9th, 1899 in Brasov in Transylvania, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and now part of Romania. To celebrate his 110th birthday Brasov placed a plaque on his birth home and opened an exhibition of his photographs and documents from his life.
